Hypnotherapy

Bobbi Wilson

I have always found hypnosis interesting and after having the opportunity to experience it first hand I was convinced it would be a useful tool in what I wanted to do with my life. It was meant to be! I wanted to take the hypnotherapy course but the instructor was a doctor from California who only came to Canada every few years. I was unemployed and borrowed the Lethbridge Herald from my dad to look for job opportunities. I had flipped through each section one Saturday afternoon looking for the classifieds but couldn't find them. I thought I was just missing it; but a higher power was at work. In my second search through each section, I came across an ad for a hypnotherapy course to be offered in Lethbridge, from the same doctor from California who wasn't expected back for a couple more years. Even though I was unemployed, I had tucked some money away in hopes of saving it for a well-deserved and long awaited vacation to some tropical paradise. It was exactly enough money to take the course; but it meant giving up my dream vacation. I put it out to the universe that I wanted to bring this opportunity into my life and was willing to give up something I really desired, and it all worked out.

I have been a Certified Hypnotherapist since May 2004 and have had the incredible opportunity to work with a variety of people on diverse issues. Every time I finish a session and see the amazement on my client's face I know the choice was well worth it. One of the major reasons I wanted to take the Hypnosis course was in part due to a friend who was stuck in his story and could not get past his conscious thoughts. Although he had attempted counselling on previous occasions he could never get past a certain point and no matter how many counsellors he saw he continued to stay stuck. Once I learned the benefits of hypnotherapy, I could personally see how it could be used as an aid in counselling to tap into one's subconscious.

Currently I am in my second year working towards my Addictions Counselling Degree at the University of Lethbridge. I feel blessed to have this knowledge and look forward to being able to use hypnosis to help in the counselling process. Hypnosis does not need to be combined with counselling and can be a wonderful tool for individuals on its own. Some of the hypnotherapy I focus on is:

Goals Stress Relaxation Anxiety Dreams Weight Loss Self-Esteem Fears & Phobias Smoking Cessation
